Job summary

South Shore Health System seeks a Professional Surgical Coder I to assign ICD-10-CM, CPT, and E/M codes for inpatient and outpatient services. This role reviews documentation, identifies gaps, and queries providers to ensure accurate coding and optimal reimbursement.

The candidate will work with physicians and leadership to support documentation improvement, maintain high-quality coding standards, and ensure compliance with AHIMA standards. Epic experience is required.

Qualifications

• Associate degree with medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, ICD-10-CM coding coursework
• CPC or CCS-P certification required
• 2–3 years of surgical practice experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Analyze patient records and assign ICD-10-CM, CPT, and E/M codes with high accuracy
• Identify documentation gaps and query providers as needed
• Ensure coding is compliant and entered into the EHR (Epic)
• Respond to coding questions from clinicians and support teams
• Stay current with coding developments and AHIMA standards
• Collaborate with team to improve coding processes
• Assist in billing reviews and appeals as needed
• Maintain high productivity and quality standards
• Comply with all applicable laws and hospital policies
