Job summary

MLK Community Healthcare in Los Angeles, Wilmington Clinic, is seeking a Surgical Coordinator Medical Assistant to support surgical services from pre-operative preparation through post-operative follow-up, while also performing Medical Assistant duties.

The role requires patient-centered care, confidentiality, quality and safety, and the ability to coordinate with the care team. At least one year of MA and surgical coordination experience is preferred, with BLS certification desirable.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; five years of medical assisting and surgical coordination experience may substitute.
• Medical Assistant Diploma/Certificate required.
• Minimum of one year experience as Medical Assistant and one year as Surgical Coordinator or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate surgical procedures and related patient services with physicians, staff, facilities and other healthcare professionals.
• Assist with scheduling pre-operative appointments, diagnostic testing, and follow-up visits.
• Maintain accurate documentation in the electronic medical record and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Prepare patients for examinations and assist with procedures.
• Support infection prevention and patient privacy throughout care.
