Job summary

MLK Community Healthcare seeks a Surgical Coordinator Medical Assistant in Wilmington Clinic to coordinate surgical procedures and provide clinical and administrative support. The role supports patients, providers, and the care team from initial surgical decision through post-operative follow-up.

The incumbent will maintain documentation in the EMR, assist with pre-op workups, and serve as a liaison among patients, surgical facilities, and departments.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required; 5 years medical assisting/surgical coordination may substitute.
• Medical Assistant Diploma/Certificate required or preferred.
• Minimum of 1 year as Medical Assistant in a medical practice.
• Minimum of 1 year as Surgical Coordinator or equivalent.
• BLS through American Heart Association preferred.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates surgical procedures and related patient services with physicians, staff, and facilities.
• Assists with scheduling pre-operative and follow-up appointments and related tests.
• Manages pre-operative documentation, clearances, and lab testing.
• Reviews patient records for completeness and pre-surgery requirements.
• Communicates instructions and appointment details clearly to patients.
• Maintains accurate documentation in the electronic medical record.
