Job summary

MLK Community Healthcare is seeking a Surgical Coordinator - Medical Assistant to provide clinical and administrative support across surgical services. You will coordinate care from initial recommendation through pre-op, scheduling, procedures, and post-op follow-up, while performing MA duties within scope of practice.

The role requires strong organizational and communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced healthcare setting.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required; five years of medical assisting/surgical coordination experience may substitute.
• Medical Assistant Diploma/Certificate required.
• Minimum of one year experience in a medical practice as a Medical Assistant.
• BLS certification through American Heart Association.
• CA-certified Medical Assistant certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate surgical procedures and patient services with physicians, APs, and staff.
• Schedule pre-operative and follow-up appointments and testing.
• Obtain authorizations, referrals, and necessary documentation for surgery.
• Maintain accurate documentation in the EHR and other systems.
• Assist with patient education and clinical procedures as appropriate.
• Ensure patient privacy and confidentiality in accordance with laws.
