Job summary

Qualifications

• Experience with scheduling surgical procedures.
• Strong working knowledge of medical terminology.
• Proficient computer skills and familiarity with using a database, spreadsheet, and word processing program.

Responsibilities

• Answer and triage patient phone calls, manage voicemail and email.
• Enter physician orders into the EMR.
• Coordinate scheduling of surgery, endoscopy, outpatient procedures, and related appointments.
• Support coordination of patient care between team members and departments.
• Complete standard patient forms as directed (FMLA, Short Term Disability, Workers Comp).
• Provide patients with information packets and documents per physician protocols.
• Communicate scheduling changes to staff and departments; maintain the surgery schedule.
• Prepare patient EMR and paper charts for upcoming procedures with orders and results.
• Provide clerical, keyboarding, and phone support for the department.
• Inform patients about pre- and postoperative instructions and registration.
• Participate in training and orientation of new staff.
• Act as back-up to other teams as assigned.
• Consider age-related factors when dealing with patients from neonates to geriatrics.
