Job summary

Excelsior-Orthopaedics seeks a Surgery Scheduling Specialist to liaise between patients and physicians, schedule surgeries and pre-operative tests, and advise patients on financial responsibility.

The position requires 4+ years in a medical office (orthopedic setting preferred) and EMR experience (MEDENT preferred). An associate degree is preferred; HS diploma or GED is required. You will coordinate documents, obtain precertifications, and communicate with insurance and facilities.

Qualifications

• 4+ years medical office experience; orthopedic setting preferred.
• EMR experience required; MEDENT preferred.

Responsibilities

• Receives instructions from physicians about which surgery or test is recommended.
• Schedules procedures at appropriate facility and appropriate pre-op testing.
• Obtains precertification/preauthorization from insurance companies prior to surgery for each procedure and test.
• Verifies patient eligibility and coverage for the procedure; if not eligible, explains this to patients.
• Counsels patients pre-operatively regarding potential financial obligation and insurance coverage.
• Schedules operating room time and all appropriate pre-operative tests.
• Coordinates all business and clinical paperwork prior to surgery.
• Responds to inquiries from patient and carriers regarding planned surgeries.
