Job summary

Dignity Health is seeking a Surgery Procedure Coordinator to orchestrate surgical procedures and provide comprehensive patient support. You will coordinate schedules for physicians, ORs, anesthesia, and staff, while managing pre/post‑op information and securing prior authorizations.

The role requires strong organization, attention to detail, and knowledge of surgical workflows. BLS CPR and prior coordinating experience are preferred.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant program or military medical training is preferred.
  • Experience with patient check-in and scheduling systems is required.
  • 1 year of Surgery Procedure Coordinator or similar scheduling experience is preferred.
  • BLS CPR certification is required.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate schedules for physicians, ORs, anesthesia, and staff.
  • Distribute pre/post‑op information and manage authorizations and insurance details.
  • Serve as liaison among physicians, patients, and hospital teams.
  • Perform front desk duties and handle scheduling, registrations, and payments.
  • Record clinical findings and follow hospital protocols in the patient record.
  • Monitor vital signs and assist during procedures as requested.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Surgery Procedure Coordinator, you will be a central pivot, orchestrating seamless and efficient surgical procedures while ensuring comprehensive patient support.

Every day, you will meticulously coordinate schedules for physicians, ORs, anesthesiologists, equipment, and staff per physician recommendations. You'll act as a critical liaison, communicating with all parties, distributing pre/post‑op information, and expertly managing financial/insurance details to secure prior authorizations.

To be successful in this role, you will possess exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and a deep understanding of surgical workflows. Your ability to anticipate needs and provide proactive support will be paramount.

  • Assists the nurse/physician during examinations, treatments and procedures as requested. Retrieves necessary equipment and supplies.
  • Documents clinically relevant findings in the patient's record according to hospital protocols and clinical protocols. Completes hospital forms per protocol. Performs follow‑up actions as directed.
  • Monitors and records patient vital signs, weight, positioning, ADL's I&O activity and blood glucose readings per RN instructions, hospital protocols, and standards of care.
  • Initiates orders according to SJHMC time performance standards-STAT-Within 5 minutes, Discharge/Transfer- within 10 minutes, Routine- within 30 minutes.
  • Conducts front desk duties as needed (check in, registrations, scheduling appointments, template oversight (if applicable), printing forms and schedules, posting payments and charge reconciliation, and reporting any issues with the system). Effectively utilizes IDX downtime procedures as needed.
  • Coordinate operating rooms, equipment, anesthesia, pre‑op labs and imaging, authorizations, and physician schedule for surgeries. Gather and record financial and insurance information and ensure authorizations are obtained prior to the procedure/surgery.
Job Requirements
Required
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program or completion of an U.S. Armed Forces medical services training program. Candidates who completed a program prior to February 2, 2000 can satisfy the minimum education requirements by providing evidence of direct supervision by the same physician, physician group, or physician assistant for a minimum of 2000 hours to satisfy the minimum education requirements
  • Demonstrated experience with computer program utilized for checking‑in and scheduling patients
  • One (1) year as a Surgery Procedure Coordinator scheduling for physicians, ORs, anesthesiologists, labs, and equipment
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support - CPR
Preferred
  • Previous MA experience
  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR) experience
  • Previous experience in designated specialty.
  • Previous office experience

Pay Range

$21.96 - $31.01 /hour
