Job summary

Clinical Neuroscience Institute - MVH is seeking a Surgery Scheduler to act as liaison between patients, surgeons, and the surgical facility, coordinating pre-operative and scheduling needs with precision.

You will handle data collection, document patient encounters, review medical information, and coordinate pre- and post-op appointments while maintaining excellent customer service and seamless patient experience.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent; College degree preferred.
  • Current Medical Assistant Certification is strongly preferred.
  • Two years of scheduling and/or medical office experience preferred.
  • Sound understanding of medical terminology required.
  • Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT codes required.
  • Ability to learn related center tasks and be of assistance to management and physicians.
  • Self-motivated to achieve the highest patient care and patient experience standards.
  • BLS certified at the time of employment, or within the first 3 months, preferred.
  • If the Surgery Scheduler is a Medical Assistant, BLS is required.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy required.

Responsibilities

  • Act as an effective liaison between the patient, surgeon/s, referring physician, and the surgical facility, for all aspects of pre-operative preparations.
  • Complete all pre-operative forms in relation to the scheduling of all procedures/surgeries, and disperse as appropriate to surgical facilities
  • Document all patient encounters, whether in person, or on the phone, using appropriate medical terminology.
  • Review clinical information for each patient, and coordinate necessary pre- and post-op appointments as appropriate.
  • Coordinate schedules between all involved offices for any combined procedures.
  • Add same-day, and next-day cases, and communicate to all appropriate office staff, physicians, call service (as required), and surgical facility.
  • Identify potential scheduling conflicts, or patient issues, and communicate to the Practice Manager in a timely manner.
  • Notify patients of all scheduled appointments; both pre- and post-operative.
  • Answer all inquiries from patients, families, and referring physicians concerning surgery and/or related concerns.
  • Communicate with all patients, coworkers, and outside parties, utilizing Premier Physician Enterprise behavioral standards.
  • Cross-train in other areas as required.
  • The Surgery Scheduler will be responsible for other duties as assigned.

Summary of Position

The Surgery Scheduler will act as the liaison between the patient, physician/s, and surgical facility, and will be responsible for all functions related to the coordination of scheduling surgeries. They will perform an extensive number of data collection functions, as delegated by the physician, to allow for a seamless surgical experience for each patient.

Nature and Scope

The Surgery Scheduler is responsible for assisting the patient with all aspects of pre-operative preparations, in a manner that promotes patient confidence and comfort in their medical care.

The Surgery Scheduler will demonstrate excellent customer service, and demonstrate flexibility to meet the needs of the office and their patients.
