Qualifications

  • Associates degree or equivalent.
  • Six to twelve months related experience as Medical Assistant or LPN.
  • Six to twelve months experience in a medical office setting.
  • Current CPR or BLS Certification.
  • Basic computer/data entry skills.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate surgical schedules for multiple providers.
  • Set up pre-operative clearance appointments and gather clearance documentation.
  • Schedule and order diagnostic tests and verify results.
  • Verify and detail patient charts for scheduling procedures across hospitals and centers.
  • Communicate with providers, clinical teams, hospitals, and ambulatory centers for smooth surgical flow.
  • Schedule first postoperative appointment and coordinate follow-ups.
  • Order post-operative DME, home health, or rehab as needed.
  • Occasionally assist in clinic and help with minor in-office procedures.

Position SummaryThe Surgery Coordinator is responsible for administrative duties relevant to surgical operations. This includes surgery scheduling, keeping patient records, entering post-surgical data and scheduling surgical equipment.Major Duties and ResponsibilitiesMaintain accurate surgical schedules for multiple providers.Setting up pre-operative clearance appointments. The surgical scheduler is also responsible for ensuring all documentation is available for aforementioned providers for pre-operative clearance and retrieval of pre-operative clearance paperwork prior to patient surgery.Scheduling and ordering all diagnostic tests requested by the provider and ensuring tests were performed and obtaining results.Use electronic medical records, viewer privileges, at multiple area hospitals.Verify and detail the patient chart to reflect correct patient histories needed for scheduling all surgical procedures. Provide this information to facility.Communicate between the providers, clinical team, all hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers to ensure a smooth surgical experience for the patient and provider.Scheduling each surgery patients first post-operative appointment.Contacting patients insurance to obtain authorization prior to surgery.Ordering all patient post-operative durable medical equipment (DME) as well as any Home Health care or skilled nursing facility/ rehab if needed.May be assigned other duties to include occasional work in the clinic setting, rooming patients and assisting providers with minor in office procedures. Occasional dressing changes and durable medical equipment (DME) fittings may be needed as well.Weekly completion of surgical packets for the physician.Weekly logs of each providers surgeries to provide to in office billers and coders.Schedules Wound Healing Center patients needing surgery and will be required to navigate the EHR system to obtain all patient information pertinent to schedule the surgery.Ensuring proper hardware is ordered.Other duties as assigned.Compensation starts at $17.65 per hour, with the final hourly rate determined by the candidate's relevant experience and qualifications.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesKnowledge of OSHA regulation compliance.Knowledge of medical terminology.Knowledge of laboratory techniques to perform routine laboratory tests.Must possess skills to include attention to detail, self-motivation, time management and organization.Skilled in providing excellent customer service.Skilled in verbal and written communication.Ability to work scheduled hours as defined in the job offer.Ability to work independently as well as in a group setting.Education / Training / RequirementsAssociates degrees or equivalent.Six to twelve months related experience as a Medical Assistant / Licensed Practical Nurse.Six to twelve months experience working in a medical office setting.Experience in Phlebotomy.Current CPR or BLS Certification.Physical DemandsAbility to lift or move equipment.Ability to stand and walk for periods of time.Ability to sit for extended periods of time.Ability to enter data into a computer via a keyboard.Ability to occasionally reach, bend, stoop and lift up to 30 lbs. *Ability to grasp and hold up to 30 lbs.*Ability to occasionally squat and lean over.Ability to hear normal voice level communications in person or through the telephone.Ability to speak clearly and understandably.Basic vision, corrected.Ability to see and understand data on a computer screen.Success FactorsAlignment with Company Mission and Core ValuesExcellent Time Management/OrganizedOpen Communication/PositiveGoal DrivenExcellent Customer ServiceJuggles Multiple PrioritiesAccuracy and Attention to DetailAll statements are essential functions of the position unless identified as non-essential by an asterisk (*).
