Job summary

Hecla Mining Company is seeking a Surface Maintenance Mechanic in Alaska to perform inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on surface equipment such as conveyors and hoists. You will work with engineering and operations to troubleshoot issues and improve reliability, while strictly following safety and regulatory requirements.

The role requires strong knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, and pneumatics, plus ability to read blueprints and manuals.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience as a mechanic or maintenance technician in industrial or mining settings.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints and schematics.
• Valid driver’s license; able to work in variable weather.

Responsibilities

• Conduct inspections and preventive maintenance on surface equipment (conveyors, pumps, compressors, hoists).
• Diagnose mechanical failures and perform repairs to minimize downtime.
• Maintain maintenance records and report on equipment status.
• Collaborate with engineering/operations to improve reliability and schedules.
• Adhere to safety guidelines and regulatory requirements.
• Operate hand/power tools, welding equipment, and diagnostic instruments.
• Assist in installation and commissioning of new surface equipment.
