Job summary

HECLA MINING CO. is seeking a Surface Maintenance Mechanic in Juneau, AK to perform preventive maintenance on surface equipment including conveyors and pumps. The role supports safety-focused operations and collaborates with engineering and operations teams to minimize downtime.

The candidate should have a high school diploma and proven industrial/mining maintenance experience, with strong knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, and reading schematics. CMMS familiarity and welding skills are a plus.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Proven experience as a mechanic or maintenance technician in an industrial or mining setting.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to work in various weather conditions.
• Technical certification or diploma in mechanical maintenance or related field (preferred).
• Experience with welding and fabrication (preferred).
• Familiarity with CMMS (preferred).
• Knowledge of safety standards such as OSHA or MSHA (preferred).
• First aid and CPR certification (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance on surface equipment such as conveyors, pumps, compressors, and hoists.
• Diagnose mechanical failures and perform timely repairs to minimize operational disruptions.
• Maintain detailed maintenance records and report on equipment status and repair activities.
• Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to develop maintenance schedules and improve equipment reliability.
• Adhere strictly to safety guidelines and regulatory requirements to ensure a safe working environment.
• Operate hand and power tools, welding equipment, and diagnostic instruments as needed.
• Assist in the installation and commissioning of new surface equipment.
