Job summary

Pye-Barker Fire & Safety in Houston, TX seeks a skilled Fire & Life Safety Technician to perform testing, inspection, troubleshooting, and maintenance of various suppression systems. You will read blueprints, document deficiencies, and provide clear communication to customers and supervisors while complying with codes and standards.

Requirements include a high school diploma, FEL-K (FEL-A preferred), 3+ years in the field, and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• FEL-K required; FEL-A preferred.
• 3+ years of experience in fire and life safety industry as an apprentice or technician.
• Experience with commercial fire suppression systems and inspection compliance requirements preferred.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record, if driving role.
• Strong working knowledge of fire suppression systems and inspection procedures.
• Ability to work independently and complete standard inspection jobs without direct supervision.
• Ability to read and interpret technical documents and system drawings.

Responsibilities

• Perform testing, inspection, troubleshooting, and basic maintenance of fire suppression systems including wet, dry, pre-action and deluge systems.
• Inspect valves, gauges, piping, sprinkler heads, alarm connections, and related suppression system components.
• Perform functional testing to verify proper system operation and compliance with applicable codes, standards, and customer requirements.
• Identify deficiencies, recommend corrective actions, and communicate findings clearly to customers and supervisors.
• Read and interpret blueprints, system layouts, inspection reports, and technical manuals.
• Use hand tools and testing equipment to complete inspection work efficiently and safely.
• Complete inspection reports, deficiency documentation, and service records accurately and on time.
• Communicate professionally with customers, team members, and supervisors regarding job progress and system status.
• Follow all company safety procedures and customer site requirements.
• Travel to job sites as required.
• Other duties as assigned by management.
