Job summary

Pye-Barker Fire & Safety in Kansas is seeking a Fire Alarm and Suppression Technician to independently service fire alarm and suppression systems across commercial, industrial, and construction environments.

You will diagnose issues, interpret drawings, and complete service reports while traveling to job sites. NICET Level I or higher is preferred, with a valid driver’s license required.

The Fire Alarm and Suppression Technician is a role responsible for independently performing core technical functions related to the fire alarm and suppression systems. This position is capable of completing standard service and maintenance tasks without direct supervision. The technician applies industry knowledge, troubleshooting skills, and best practices to ensure systems are operating in compliance with applicable codes and standards.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform maintenance and service of fire alarm and suppression systems independently.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot system issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Complete standard service calls without direct supervision.
  • Interpret system drawings, specifications, and technical manuals.
  • Use hand tools and testing equipment to perform required tasks.
  • Ensure all work complies with applicable codes, standards, and company policies.
  • Accurately complete service reports, documentation, and inspection records.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, team members, and supervisors.
  • Identify potential system deficiencies and recommend corrective actions.
  • Provide guidance and support to entry-level technicians as needed.
  • Travel to job sites as required.
  • Perform work in commercial, industrial, and construction environments.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.
Education/Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience in the fire and life safety industry.
  • NICET Level I or above preferred.
  • Strong understanding of fire alarm systems, components, and troubleshooting methods.
  • Ability to work independently and manage assigned tasks.
  • Must have a clean driving record and active driver’s license.
Other Duties
  • Adheres to the Code of Conduct, Confidentiality Agreement, and Company Safety Policy.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, climbing ladders, and working in various environments.
  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds.
  • Exposure to varying conditions including heights, confined spaces, and active job sites.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and reach for extended periods.
  • Work performed in commercial, industrial, and construction environments.
