Job summary

DESC in Washington seeks energized Residential Counselors to support residents at permanent supportive housing projects. You will assist individuals with daily needs and collaborate with clinical staff on-site.

Responsibilities include coordinating services, facilitating on-site activities and support groups, responding to crises, and ensuring safety and building operations. This unionized role emphasizes respectful, trauma-informed care.

Qualifications

• Basic understanding of homelessness and characteristics of homeless adults.
• Ability to communicate and work effectively with staff from various backgrounds.
• Ability to work effectively with clients displaying a wide range of behaviors.
• Commitment to cooperative and respectful service.

Responsibilities

• Interact with residents in the general milieu and common areas.
• Coordinate services with clinical staff and outside providers as necessary.
• Engage residents through creative, resourceful strategies that build trust.
• Initiate on-site activities, therapeutic groups, and community meetings.
• Maintain safety and security and monitor access areas.
