Job summary

Downtown Emergency Service Center (DESC) is seeking energized Residential Counselors to support residents at permanent supportive housing projects. You will help with daily needs, safety, and coordinating services while focusing on residents with complex behavioral health needs.

The role emphasizes crisis intervention, collaboration with clinical and maintenance staff, and documentation of daily activities in the housing program.

Qualifications

• Basic understanding of homelessness and the adult population served.
• Ability to communicate with staff from diverse backgrounds.
• Ability to work with clients with challenging behaviors.
• Commitment to cooperative, respectful client care across programs.

Responsibilities

• Interact with residents in common areas and milieu.
• Assist clinical staff in coordinating services for residents.
• Facilitate on-site activities and support groups.
• Manage building operations in the absence of others.
• Monitor lobby, security, and visitor check-in procedures.
• Document significant events in daily logs and read logs daily.
• Assist with leasing, room turnovers, and inspections.
• Respond to resident complaints and coordinate with staff.
