Job summary

J.B. Hunt Transport, Inc. in Edgerton, KS is seeking a Manager Trainee for a Summer 2027 start. Under supervision, you will learn to manage a small driver count, plan routes, and ensure safe, timely freight movement while delivering best-in-class customer service.

The program trains you to comply with DOT regulations, work across shifts including nights/weekends, and develop reporting, budgeting, and driver-management skills necessary to advance within logistics and fleet operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Transportation/Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field (or 1 year of management/transportation experience with a high school diploma).
• Willing to travel to account, customer, and company events; able to work nights and weekends.
• Willingness to relocate regionally based on account assignment.

Responsibilities

• Learn to build positive relationships with drivers and carriers to ensure seamless carrier setup and productivity.
• Fill in for absent personnel and support projects to optimize fleet operations and profitability.
• Assist in personnel management, including training and orientation of drivers and staff, and use internal and customer systems.
• Develop reporting and financial analysis skills through customer-site visits.
• Learn to manage inventory, assets, and driver assignments to balance equipment.
• Learn payroll, budgeting, driver counseling, and invoicing tasks.
• Learn yard management and coordinate maintenance for account equipment.
• Collaborate with drivers and customers to resolve service and routing issues.
• Maintain safety culture with driver safety messages and trainings.
• Assign loads, plan routes, monitor freight movement and ETA adjustments.
