Job summary

Johnson Controls, a global leader in building systems and energy efficiency, is seeking a Supplier Quality Engineer in Lubbock, TX. This role drives supplier quality improvements, APQP activities, and PPAP processes to ensure zero defects in industrial parts.

You will lead cross-functional teams, apply 8D and Six Sigma methodologies, and sustain ISO 9001 compliance while supporting calibration, metrology, and government/industry quality codes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering and 2+ years in ISO/TS certified manufacturing quality.
• Strong root cause analysis using 8D, Six Sigma, Mistake Proofing, and SPC.
• Ability to read technical drawings and interpret ISO 9001 standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead improvement of supplier and incoming inspection processes to achieve zero defects.
• Coordinate cross-functional teams to reduce Cost of Poor Quality (CoPQ) and supplier rejects using structured problem-solving (8D, Six Sigma).
• Maintain and improve ISO 9001 Quality Management System and assist with internal and external audits.
• Plan analyses, inspections, tests, and process controls to assure supplied quality meets specs.
• Lead APQP stage gates and PPAP activities for new product/process development.

What Will You Do

This position plans and conducts activities concerned with the supplied product quality assurance of industrial processes and materials by performing the following duties:

How You Will Do It

• Lead improvement of supplier and incoming inspection processes and products with the goal of Zero Defects through enhanced Process Failure Modes & Effects Analysis (pFMEA), Mistake Proofing techniques, and robust Control Plans.
• Lead cross-functional teams to reduce the supplied Cost of Poor Quality (CoPQ) and supplier rejects through structured root cause problem-solving activities such as 8D and Six Sigma.
• Improve and sustain the ISO 9001 Quality Management System, including performance of internal system audits and/or layered process audits, as well as support external audits.
• Plan and oversee the analysis, inspection, testing, and other process controls to assure the supplied quality of products or components to meet specification.
• Lead assigned Advance Product Quality Planning (APQP) stage gate quality deliverables for new product/process development and Engineering Change Notification (ECN) projects including Production Part Approval Process (PPAP).
• Drive improvement in the calibration and metrology system, records, and assets.
• Maintain a working knowledge of necessary government and industry quality codes and standards to ensure product compliance.

Required

What we look for

• English language proficiency (reading, writing, speaking)
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing Engineering)
• Minimum 2 years of related Quality Engineering experience in an ISO/TS certified manufacturing environment
• Strong background of root cause problem-solving including knowledge of 8D, Six Sigma, Mistake Proofing, and Statistical Process Control (SPC) tools and techniques.
• Working knowledge of ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems and ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and standards.
• Prior experience with New Product Introduction (NPI) and Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) techniques including Production Part Approval Process (PPAP).
• Demonstrated strengths of resiliency and process focus implementing Quality standards and best practices.

Preferred

• Bilingual (English primary, Spanish secondary)
• Master’s degree (Engineering, Business, or Quality)
• ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE)
• Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certification

Hiring Salary Range

$67,900.00 - $101,900.00 USD Annual (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, location and alignment with market data.)
