Job summary

Johnson Controls is seeking a Quality Engineer to improve supplier and incoming inspection processes and to lead cross-functional teams in reducing CoPQ and supplier rejects. The role includes sustaining ISO 9001, conducting audits, and overseeing APQP/PPAP activities for new product introductions.

The candidate should have a bachelor’s degree in engineering and at least two years in ISO/TS manufacturing environments, with strong root-cause and Six Sigma experience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required.
  • Minimum 2 years of related Quality Engineering experience in an ISO/TS certified manufacturing environment.
  • Strong root cause problem-solving background including 8D, Six Sigma, Mistake Proofing, and SPC tools.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems and ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and standards.
  • Experience with New Product Introduction (NPI) and Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) techniques including PPAP.

Responsibilities

  • Lead improvement of supplier and incoming inspection processes with PFMEA, Mistake Proofing, and robust Control Plans.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to reduce cost of poor quality and supplier rejects via structured 8D and Six Sigma.
  • Improve and sustain the ISO 9001 Quality Management System; perform internal audits and support external audits.
  • Plan and oversee analysis, inspection, testing, and process controls to assure quality of products meeting spec.
  • Lead APQP stage gate quality deliverables for new product/process development and PPAP projects; drive calibration/metrology improvements.
  • Maintain knowledge of government and industry quality codes to ensure product compliance.

How You Will Do It
  • Lead improvement of supplier and incoming inspection processes and products with the goal of Zero Defects through enhanced Process Failure Modes & Effects Analysis (pFMEA), Mistake Proofing techniques, and robust Control Plans.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to reduce the supplied Cost of Poor Quality (CoPQ) and supplier rejects through structured root cause problem-solving activities such as 8D and Six Sigma.
  • Improve and sustain the ISO 9001 Quality Management System, including performance of internal system audits and/or layered process audits, as well as support external audits.
  • Plan and oversee the analysis, inspection, testing, and other process controls to assure the supplied quality of products or components to meet specification.
  • Lead assigned Advance Product Quality Planning (APQP) stage gate quality deliverables for new product/process development and Engineering Change Notification (ECN) projects including Production Part Approval Process (PPAP).
  • Drive improvement in the calibration and metrology system, records, and assets.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of necessary government and industry quality codes and standards to ensure product compliance.
Required

  • English language proficiency (reading, writing, speaking)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing Engineering)
  • Minimum 2 years of related Quality Engineering experience in an ISO/TS certified manufacturing environment
  • Strong background of root cause problem-solving including knowledge of 8D, Six Sigma, Mistake Proofing, and Statistical Process Control (SPC) tools and techniques.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems and ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and standards.
  • Prior experience with New Product Introduction (NPI) and Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) techniques including Production Part Approval Process (PPAP).
  • Demonstrated strengths of resiliency and process focus implementing Quality standards and best practices.
Preferred
  • Masters Degree (Engineering, Business, or Quality)
  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE)
  • Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certification
SALARY RANGE

SALARY RANGE: $60,600 - $91,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.) This role offers a competitive Bonus plan that will take into account individual, group, and corporate performance. This position includes a competitive benefits package.
