Job summary

Johnson Controls, Inc. is seeking a Supplier Quality Engineer in Gilbert, AZ to monitor supplier performance and drive timely issue resolution across North American plants. You will lead APQP/PPAP activities for new and modified parts and coordinate containment and supplier corrective actions.

The role requires 3 years in SQE/SQA, strong problem-solving, GD&T understanding, and the ability to work cross-functionally. Up to 30% travel and CAD/AIAG tool proficiency are expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related technical field.
  • 3 years of experience in supplier quality engineering and/or quality assurance.
  • Structured problem-solving and proven cross-functional collaboration.
  • Familiarity with GD&T and reading engineering drawings.

Supplier Quality Engineer

What you will do

Within Johnson Controls’ Data Center Solutions group, you will play a key role supporting Supplier Quality monitoring supplier performance, execute Advanced Product Quality Plan (APQP) and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) for new and modified parts/components, drive daily supplier quality issues to closure, analyze supplier issues across Silent-Aire plants, and track supplier cost of poor quality and initiate supplier chargebacks.

How you will do it
  • Work closely with the plant Quality Engineers to address supplier issues.
  • Coordinate the isolation and containment of suspect supplied material.
  • Manage the return materials process to suppliers.
  • Coordinate the sorting/rework activities with the suppliers.
  • Communicate across the North American plants to determine the top five issues and worst performing suppliers for transfer to Corporate Supplier Quality.
  • Work with suppliers to ensure that effective root cause and preventive actions are provided for supplier issues.
  • Review and approve supplier corrective actions.
  • Monitor key KPIs relating to supplier issues (i.e. responsiveness, repeat issues, etc.).
  • Develop receiving inspection strategies based on critical components defined by the DFMEA (designfailure modeand effect analysis) process and past supplier performance.
  • Execute Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) for new and modified parts/components according to JCI procedures and standards.
  • Participating with the corporate Supplier Quality Team to evaluate new and existing suppliers.
What we look for
Required
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or other technical discipline.
  • 3 years’ experience within supplier quality engineering (SQE) and/or assurance (SQA).
  • Proven track record using structured problem-solving methodologies to resolve manufacturing and systemic issues.
  • Effectively operate in cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to communicate with multiple cultures/regions.
  • Up to 30% business travel (domestic and international).
  • AIAG Core tools working knowledge (APQP, FMEA, PPAP, SPC, MSA, Control Plan).
  • Exhibit a high-level of self-motivation, sense of urgency and comfortable making recommendations across broad teams.
  • Strong communication skills with demonstrated ability to construct and present information to a wide range of audiences internally and externally and to handle conflict properly.
  • To be comfortable in demanding accountability from peers when needed, be open to receiving constructive feedback and react to getting better.
  • Familiarity with reading/Interpreting Engineering drawings and understanding GD&T, CAD software.
  • Experience with ISO 9001.
Preferred
  • Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or other technical discipline.
  • ASQ Certified CQE.
  • Structured problem-solving training/certification (Lean/Six Sigma training, Green or Black Belt, Red X/Shainin).
  • Formal training/certification in AIAG Core Tools.
  • Formal Auditor training/certification.

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $85,000-$117,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
