Job summary

The Smithsonian Institution seeks a budget and administration professional to support federal and trust budgets, provide procurement expertise, and coordinate personnel actions across the organization.

You will prepare briefing materials and status reports for senior leadership while ensuring compliance with Smithsonian policies and time-in-grade requirements.

Qualifications

  • Requires career/career-conditional status or eligibility.
  • Males born after 12/31/59 must be registered with Selective Service.
  • No education substitution at this level.

Responsibilities

  • Support the formulation, execution, and monitoring of federal and trust budgets by providing analytical, technical, and administrative expertise across all phases of the budget cycle.
  • Provide procurement support as a purchaser, ensuring all acquisition actions remain within established authority and comply with Smithsonian policies.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with the OHR and FM Personnel Management Division, coordinating personnel actions and addressing staffing needs.
  • Exercise supervisory responsibility over assigned staff, including planning and organizing work to be accomplished, setting and adjusting short-term priorities, and preparing schedules for timely completion.
  • Conduct research on administrative and operational issues, evaluate policy implications, and prepare well supported recommendations within established guidelines.
  • Provide guidance on both technical and administrative matters.
  • Prepare high-quality correspondence, briefing materials, decision papers, and status reports for senior leadership, ensuring materials are accurate, timely, and aligned with organizational priorities.

Conditions of Employment

Time-in-Grade Requirements: Under competitive merit promotion procedures, any individual who is currently holding, or who has held within the previous 52 weeks, a General Schedule position under a non-temporary appointment in the competitive or excepted service, must meet "time-in-grade" requirements (have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade of the grade for which you are applying).
