Job Title: Supervisor, Shipping and Receiving
Job Description Summary: Responsible for supervising daily Shipping and Receiving functions across multiple locations, primarily in Boston, Cambridge, and Rhode Island. Manages inbound and outbound materials, updates logistics systems, and oversees personnel in the absence of the supervisor.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Pay: $44.50
- Schedule: Monday-Friday (7:00am-3:30pm)
- Process domestic and international shipments following DOT and IATA guidelines, handling hazardous and non-hazardous goods, R&D samples, and equipment.
- Follow Vertex policies, SOPs, and GMP procedures, including cold storage and client-specific requirements.
- Communicate effectively with R&D, manufacturing, and professional clients both in-person and electronically.
- Coordinate with Supply Chain, Purchasing, and Accounting to resolve receipt issues and invoice discrepancies.
- Transport materials between Vertex sites using company vehicles and make deliveries.
- Complete required trainings and prepare for audits.
- Support CROs, liaise with vendors and stakeholders, and assist in project planning and cost-saving initiatives.
- Declare imports/exports with Customs/FDA for pharmaceutical samples and lab equipment.
- Manage vehicle leases, services, and registrations.
- Participate in Vertex Emergency Response Team and VMC Safety Committee.
- Order logistics supplies and manage related administrative systems.
- Record and verify incoming/outgoing shipments, prepare items for shipment, and utilize various shipping technologies.
- Select appropriate shipment methods, affix labels, and package items securely.
- Inspect shipments, handle damages or shortages, and maintain inventory of shipping supplies.
- Use equipment like hand trucks, and perform lifting/moving tasks up to 50 lbs, sometimes exceeding 50 lbs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid Driver's License
- 5+ years relevant experience
- Customer service skills and professionalism
- Self-motivated, organized, and capable of independent work
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds frequently
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- IATA and DOT certifications
Physical Abilities: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly, perform physical tasks like bending, kneeling, twisting, and operate equipment safely. Full dexterity and alertness required.
