Job description

Position Overview

This position oversees the shipping and receiving department, responsible for the proper handling of materials, adherence to safety procedures, and providing accurate, timely shipments. It also involves directing activities to meet the financial and marketing objectives of the company. The role acts as the leader on duty, responding to customer and associate concerns in the absence of the store manager, as well as opening and closing the store and ensuring all bookstore property and personnel are secure.

Key Areas of Responsibility
  1. Supervision: Supervises the work activities of sales associates (full-time, part-time, and temporary), including training new associates and seasonal staff hired for peak seasons.
  2. Policy Compliance: Ensures sales associates follow company and store policies, procedures, and standards.
  3. System Maintenance: Oversees the maintenance of systems data, forms, files, and reports in accordance with store policies and procedures.
  4. Shipping/Receiving: Ensures the shipping and receiving area has adequate supplies, remains neat and organized, verifies incoming shipments against purchase orders, and records receipt of shipments.
  5. Vendor Relations: Establishes and maintains relationships with publishers to track order status and handle damaged books or returns.
  6. Inventory Management: Verifies items are scanned at the correct price, moves items to appropriate locations, unpacks boxes, and prepares products for stocking or display.
  7. Logistics: Weighs cartons, loads/unloads trucks or pallets, and prepares shipping labels.
  8. Customer Service: Directs customers to items and answers routine inquiries.
  9. Asset Protection: Leads efforts to reduce in-store shrink activity through education and compliance.
  10. Store Operations: Acts as a key carrier with responsibilities for opening and closing the store.
  11. Additional Duties: Performs other duties as assigned.
