SUMMARY: Controls all aspects of running the production machine shop including supervision of machine shop personnel. Schedules all machine runs, maintenance and operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: Other duties may be assigned.

  • Responsible for scheduling, planning, loading, and maintenance and operations of all parts to be run.
  • Trouble-shoots all machine malfunctions and set up problems.
  • Supervises, monitors, and motivates all machine operators.
  • Makes CAM layouts.
  • Organizes and controls reports and records for machine downtime and for the machine training schedule.
  • Inspects machines and equipment to ensure specific operational performance and optimum utilization.
  • Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out of tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
  • Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Requires knowledge typically acquired through:

  • Completion of an equivalent of a two year degree and/or technical certification,
  • Three to seven years related experience or training; and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees of the organization.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions and percentages.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed and frequently involved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving variables in complex situations.
