Job summary

Qualifications

  • Associates degree and 2–4 years’ custodial/janitorial/maintenance experience or equivalent.
  • 2 years’ experience supervising employees; preferably in a union environment.
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, procedures, equipment, tools and materials common to the custodial/janitorial profession.
  • Knowledge of floor care procedures and equipment.
  • Knowledge of general industry safety practices and standards within the custodial profession.
  • Knowledge of supervising bargaining unit employees.”

Supervisor, Custodial Services (3rd shift - part time)

Job Description: Position Purpose Facilities Management is an exceptionally talented team built from a diverse group of individuals who are passionate about providing the highest levels of quality craftsmanship, customer service, and teamwork through sustainable practices and who take pride in supporting the mission of the University and Facilities Management “We Care” principle values. Responsible for supervising custodial staff so that buildings and assets of the University are clean and well maintained. Ensures high quality fulfillment of cleaning tasks by ensuring availability of proper equipment, training staff in appropriate methods, and coordinating other tasks, as needed, to complement the overall custodial program. Performs, in a professional and timely manner, a variety of administrative functions in support of the overall goals of the Custodial Division, including but not limited to: submission of payroll data, maintenance of key control system, maintenance of attendance records, management of work orders, administering the safety program for assigned staff, administration of collective bargaining agreement between the University and USAW RI FM. Performs visual inspections of all locations under their responsibility. Acts as the first responder to maintenance issues and takes action to resolve the issues. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Schedule/Hours of Work This is a weekend, part time supervisor position. Successful candidates must be available to work overtime and respond to emergencies as needed. Friday & Saturday: 11:00pm-8:00am (overnight/3rd shift)

Job Qualifications and Competencies
  • Associates degree and 2-4 years’ custodial/janitorial/maintenance experience or equivalent.

  • Knowledge of all Microsoft™ Office Software and ability to process time & attendance, and work order scheduling, proficiently.
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize large amounts of information and plan appropriate response.
  • Ability to supervise, train, and evaluate the work of others, in a fair and well thought out narrative.
  • Ability to read, interpret, apply, and explain rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to be flexible and responsive.
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service.

  • General knowledge of the plumbing, electrical and structural trades.

Additional Physical Demands and Working Conditions: Regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is required to stand, walk, use hands to feel and use hands and arms to reach. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. May be required to wear Personal Protective Equipment to include steel toed shoes, or non – slippery shoes, eye protection, nitrile and leather gloves. Must be able to walk, stand climb stairs for long durations of time during and outside of shifts. Must be able to work under adverse temperatures and /or weather conditions. Meet the requirements of the Animal Care Facility Program, included in that requirement is the completion of an Occupational Health and Wellness Survey and medical monitoring. This position is classified as on‑site. Incumbents are required to work evenings, weekends and holiday rotations.
