Job summary

Manson Construction Co. in Seattle seeks a seasoned Construction Superintendent to lead site activities, coordinating materials, subcontractors, and crews to deliver projects safely and to specified quality.

You will oversee field operations, enforce safety standards, manage costs, and ensure compliance with drawings and specs. A minimum of 10 years in construction with heavy civil or marine experience is preferred, along with leadership and surveying knowledge.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years of construction experience.
  • Recent experience as a construction superintendent in heavy civil or marine construction.
  • Hands-on field and supervisory experience in marine/construction disciplines.
  • Knowledge of surveying and survey control.
  • Strong organizational and leadership capabilities.
  • First Aid/CPR Certification, preferred; OSHA Certification, preferred; Fall Protection Competent Person, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise foremen as liaison between field engineering, estimating, and crafts to ensure drawings and specifications compliance.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and crews to create detailed plans for operations on site.
  • Assist the project management team in tracking and managing costs.
  • Supervise the operation and upkeep of equipment, ensuring it remains in excellent working condition and complies with safety regulations.
  • Manage subcontractor relationships to meet schedule, budget, quality, and safety agreements.

Job description

The Superintendent is tasked with supervising and coordinating all activities on site. This position demands extensive experience in construction management and strong leadership skills. The Superintendent is responsible for effectively scheduling and coordinating materials, subcontractors, personnel, and equipment to insure the safe completion of the project at the specified quality. Must be a leader and champion for safe working conditions and work practices; commitment to hazard recognition and control must be obvious and unrelenting. The Superintendent’s leadership is always demanded on site during construction hours.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Supervise foremen assigned to as a liaison between field engineering, estimating, and crafts to ensure compliance of construction with drawings and specifications
  • Work in partnership with project managers, engineers, and crews to create detailed plans for operations on site
  • Assist the project management team in tracking and managing costs
  • Supervise the operation and upkeep of equipment, ensuring it remains in excellent working condition and complies with all safety regulations.
  • Manage subcontractor relationships, ensuring schedule, budget, quality, and safety agreements are met
  • Establish quality control standards and supervise their implementation
  • Keep accurate field notes and produce daily reports
  • Ensures compliance with Manson’s Code of Ethics and Standards of Business Conduct.
  • Track and evaluate JSA’s (Job Safety Analysis) and other Site-Specific Safety Documentation
  • Maintain a high standard of ethical behavior, encourages ethical behavior in others, supports ethical decisions and actively seeks appropriate resolution to potential ethical conflicts.
  • Responsible for practicing safe work standards and promoting an Incident and Injury Free (IIF) work environment as a condition of employment.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or abilities desired in candidates.

  • Minium of 10 years of construction experience
  • Recent experience as a construction superintendent, ideally within heavy civil construction or marine construction.
  • Hands on field experience as well as supervisory experience in a specific construction discipline (Marine construction, structures, heavy lifts or concrete experience preferred).
  • Knowledge of surveying and survey control
  • Strong organizational and leadership capabilities
  • First Aid/CPR Certification, preferred
  • OSHA Certification, preferred
  • Fall Protection Competent Person, preferred

Main office in the Northwest is in Seattle, WA. Projects typically range from Ferndale, WA - Port Angeles, WA, although could include Alaska, Hawaii, and Oregon.

Physical Demands

Position is primarily a field position, and will require travel, including visits and monitoring of construction job sites. Employee must be able to wear the personal protective equipment (PPE) required of various construction work environments (hard hats, personal floatation devices, safety glasses, gloves, safety-toed shoes, respirators, etc. The employee is required to stand, walk, use stairs, ladders, and step stools and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and may occasionally lift and/or up to 50 pounds. Must be able to navigate stairs, ladders and gangways, board, work on and disembark floating vessels and structures. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud. The employee may be required to sit for extended periods of time.
