Job summary

Manson Construction Co. seeks a field-oriented Project Engineer to support our marine construction projects in Southern California. You will work with field engineers, project engineers and managers to ensure quality, safety, and on‑time execution on complex site activities.

You will review drawings, prepare submittals, manage daily reports, and help coordinate field layouts and schedules while maintaining compliance with safety and corporate standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related engineering discipline preferred; equivalent combinations of technical training and relevant experience will be considered.
  • 0-2 years of construction experience
  • Marine, structures, heavy lifts, or concrete construction experience preferred
  • Valid Driver’s license and acceptable driving record required
  • Proficiency with all MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Basic Proficiency with AutoCAD and Bluebeam.
  • Ability to analyze issues and develop solutions, learn and adjust to new technologies, and effectively collaborate with others.

Responsibilities

  • Meets daily with project crews to review work activities for the day and participate with the project team in creating JSAs for these work activities.
  • Review construction drawings, shop drawings, design specifications, and material requirements to ensure quality and contract compliance.
  • Maintains, documents and distributes up to date plans and specifications to required parties including management staff, crews, vendors and subcontractors.
  • Keeps accurate and up‑to‑date project documentation, including daily reports and progress tracking logs.
  • Prepares daily documentation including reports, photographic records, and timecards.
  • Coordinates the delivery of materials and supplies and Inspects documents and material upon arrival.
  • Works with supervisors to coordinate the schedule between crews and subcontractors and participates in the development of the 5‑week schedule.
  • Works with field crews and the project team to plan field layout on the project site.
  • Prepares contract required submittals and reviews vendor and subcontractor submittals prior to transmission to Client.
  • Participates in safety audits and develops basic knowledge of safety procedures, OSHA, and EMS‑385 requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with Manson’s Code of Ethics, federal contractor obligations, and union agreements; uphold documentation and reporting standards.
  • Promote and maintain an Incident and Injury Free (IIF) work environment as a condition of employment.

Summary

This position is a part of our Project Management Team for our various job site locations throughout the region. Engineers provide onsite engineering and technical support, quality control, construction management assistance, land surveys, and help maintain a safe working environment. In this role, you will work closely with team of experienced field engineers, project engineers and project managers to contribute to the successful execution of Marine Construction projects throughout the region. The ideal candidate should possess a strong academic background in civil engineering, construction management or a related field, coupled with a hands‑on and practical approach to problem-solving.

Job Location

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Main office in Southern California is in Long Beach, CA. Projects are typically in and around LA County, although could range from San Diego to San Luis Obispo.

Physical Demands

This role is performed primarily in the field and may involve exposure to varying weather conditions, uneven terrain, loud noise, and active construction or industrial environments. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands and fingers, to grasp, grip, handle, or feel. The employee must be able to talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods of time. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, use stairs, ladders, and step stools and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and may occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is required to wear personal protective equipment (e.g., hard hats, goggles, work boots, safety vests, life vests) as needed for various job sites.
