Job summary

Manson Construction Co. seeks a Senior Project Manager to lead planning, execution, and completion of large marine construction projects on site.

You will manage multidisciplinary teams, coordinate with clients, regulators, and subcontractors, and ensure safety, quality, and regulatory compliance. The role requires 8–10 years in heavy civil construction with a related degree, strong budgeting and scheduling skills, and experience supervising on a construction site.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field.
  • 8-10 years of heavy civil construction experience.
  • Recent experience as a project manager for heavy civil construction.
  • Valid Driver’s License and clean driving record.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Leads and directly supervises employees on a construction site.
  • Ability to interview, hire, train, and evaluate staff; manage performance.
  • Directs best work practices in conjunction with VP/Area Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the planning, execution, and completion of large and complex marine construction projects.
  • Lead project team and mentor staff to create an efficient and effective project team.
  • Ensure all work meets quality standards and complies with contract and permit requirements.
  • Responsible for financial success of the project; track labor, cost and forecasts weekly/monthly.
  • Directs and coordinates activities to keep the project on schedule and within budget.
  • Develops or oversees the Project Plan including budget, schedule, scope, and buy-out decisions.
  • Provide monthly schedule updates and narratives per client approval.
  • Ensure adequate resources including personnel, equipment, and supplies.
  • Communicate contract changes and negotiate with client and vendors in good faith.
  • Promote safe work standards and an incident-free environment.
  • Travel to Gulf and East Coast project sites as required.

Job description

The Senior Project Manager will oversee the planning, execution, and completion of large-scale marine construction projects, ensuring they are delivered safely, on time, within scope, and on budget. This is an on-site role that involves managing multidisciplinary teams, coordinating with clients, regulatory bodies, and subcontractors, and ensuring compliance with environmental and safety standards. The Senior Project Manager is responsible for project scheduling, cost control, risk management, quality assurance, and ethics compliance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Oversees the planning, execution, and completion of large and complex marine construction projects
  • May act as a project sponsor for certain projects
  • Leadership of the project team, which includes managing, teaching and mentoring to create an efficient and effective project team and a positive working environment.
  • Ensures all work meets quality standards and is performed in compliance with contract and permit requirements.
  • Responsible for the financial success of the project. Ensures financial progress is tracked accurately and that labor, cost and forecast reports are completed weekly/monthly.
  • Directs and coordinates activities of project personnel to ensure project progresses on schedule and within prescribed budget.
  • Develops or oversees the development of the Project Plan, to include the project budget , project schedule, scope of work to be self performed vs subcontracted , buy-out of materials and subcontractors,
  • Work Element Plan responsibility, and numerous other controls outlined in the Manson Standards.
  • Utilizes a CPM baseline schedule and provides monthly schedule updates and accompanying narratives submitted and approved by client to ensure timely completion of the work
  • Ensures adequate resources are available to the project including management staff, crews, equipment and supplies.
  • Effectively communicates contract changes, entitlement arguments and time/cost impact analysis. Responsible for all contract negotiations with the client and vendors. Conducts negotiations in good faith based on fairness, cooperation and standard of business ethics.
  • Works as member of the estimating team during the project procurement phase.
  • Responsible for practicing safe work standards and promoting an Incident and Injury Free (IIF) work environment.

  • Minimum of 8-10 years of heavy civil construction experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, ocean engineering, construction management, or related field.
  • Recent experience as a project manager for heavy civil construction
  • Valid Driver’s License and acceptable driving record required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Leads and directly supervises employees on a construction site.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies, procedures and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Directs best work practices in conjunction with the VP/Area Manager.

Physical Demands

Position is primarily a field position, and will require travel, including visits and monitoring of construction job sites. Employee must be able to wear the personal protective equipment (PPE) required of various construction work environments (hard hats, personal floatation devices, safety glasses, gloves, safety-toed shoes, respirators, etc. The employee is required to stand, walk, use stairs, ladders, and step stools and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and may occasionally lift and/or up to 50 pounds. Must be able to navigate stairs, ladders and gangways, board, work on and disembark floating vessels and structures. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud. The employee may be required to sit for extended periods of time.
