Job description

Onsite: Superintendent (Utilities & Heavy Civil) | Maryland
Lead the underground work that keeps Maryland running.

An established utility and heavy civil contractor who delivers underground utility, infrastructure and heavy civil projects for public and private owners across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic is growing their workforce. With more than 40 years in the industry they have a reputation built on safety, hard work and teamwork, and backing their field leaders with strong management and engineering support.

As their Maryland workload grows, they need a experienced Superintendent who is ready to take ownership of complex water, sewer and utility projects across the Baltimore–Washington corridor. You’ll develop and run self-performing crews, on schedule, on budget, and play a key part in building the company’s operations in the state. Utility and heavy civil experience is essential, and trenchless experience is a strong plus.

What you’ll be running
  • Water main, sanitary sewer and storm drain installation and rehabilitation
  • Deep excavation, trenching, shoring and dewatering in tight urban and suburban corridors
  • Trenchless installations (HDD, jack and bore, micro tunnelling)
  • Site work, restoration and public works infrastructure for municipal and utility owners
Key responsibilities
  • Lead day-to-day field operations and set the standard for safety on every site
  • Mentor crew members and build bench strength within your project teams
  • Run safety meetings and crew training, and make sure work is done to spec the first time
  • Build and manage three-week look-ahead schedules aligned with the overall project schedule
  • Review plans and specifications early to identify risks, opportunities and constructability issues
  • Coordinate with owners, inspectors, engineers, utility companies and the project management team
  • Manage maintenance of traffic and keep impact on the community to a minimum on public right-of-way work
  • Compile daily labour hour reports so time and quantities track against budget
  • Report all accidents, incidents, rework, damage and near misses on time
What we are looking for
  • 5+ years as a Superintendent in utility or heavy civil construction
  • Proven experience in underground utilities (water, sewer, storm drainage) and site work
  • Experience on municipal or utility-authority projects in Maryland or the wider Mid-Atlantic is a strong advantage
  • Ability to read and interpret civil drawings, plans and specifications
  • Experience developing and managing three-week look-ahead schedules
  • Strong OSHA knowledge (OSHA 30 preferred) and competent person training for excavation
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
Why this role
  • Real ownership of your projects, backed by management and engineering support
  • A stable, long-established contractor with a healthy pipeline in Maryland and across the region
  • Varied, technically challenging work for public and private owners
  • Room to grow into senior field leadership as the Maryland operation expands
