Job summary

Confidential Client, a long-standing ENR-recognised heavy civil contractor, seeks an experienced Superintendent to lead complex utility and heavy civil projects in the Northeast/MMid-Atlantic region. You will have full autonomy to run field operations with executive support and a focus on safety and quality.

The role requires 5+ years as a Superintendent in utilities or heavy civil construction, with trenchless experience a plus.

Qualifications

• 5+ years direct experience as a Superintendent in utility or heavy civil construction.
• Track record in underground utilities (water, sewer, storm) and site work.
• Ability to read and interpret civil drawings, plans and specs.
• Experience developing and managing three-week look-ahead schedules.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day field operations on underground utility and heavy civil projects up to $100m+.
• Oversee excavation, trenching, pipe installation, backfill and site work.
• Mentor and develop crew members to build bench strength.
• Run safety meetings and ensure work is performed safely and to spec the first time.
• Identify risks and opportunities after reviewing project requirements.
• Build and manage three-week look-ahead schedules aligned with the project schedule.
• Coordinate manpower, equipment and subcontractors for optimal production.
• Record daily labour hours and quantities for budget tracking.
• Report accidents, incidents, rework and near misses on time.
• Collaborate with owners, inspectors, engineers and the project team.

Job description

My client is an established ENR recognised heavy civil contractor with 40+ years in the industry. They deliver underground utility, trenchless, micro tunnelling infrastructure and heavy civil projects for public and private owners across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. Their reputation is built on safety, culture and quality.

They’re looking for an experienced Superintendent to take and execute complex projects across the region, working closely with the executive team. You’ll have the full autonomy to leads teams and projects as you see fit, with full backing and resources from the leadership team. It's why their field leaders stay decades. Utility and heavy civil experience is essential, and trenchless exposure is a strong plus.

Key responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day field operations on underground utility and heavy civil projects valued up to $100m+.
• Oversee excavation, trenching, pipe installation, backfill, compaction and site work
• Mentor, train and develop crew members and build bench strength within your project teams
• Run safety meetings and crew training, and make sure work is done safely and to spec the first time
• Review project requirements, then identify and plan for risks and opportunities
• Build and manage three-week look-ahead schedules aligned with the overall project schedule
• Align manpower, equipment and subcontractors for the best production
• Compile daily labour hour reports so time and quantities track against budget
• Report all accidents, incidents, rework, damage and near misses on time
• Work closely with owners, inspectors, engineers and the project management team

What we are looking for

• 5+ years direct experience as a Superintendent in utility or heavy civil construction
• Track record in underground utilities (water, sewer, storm drainage) and site work
• Ability to read and interpret civil drawings, plans and specifications
• Experience developing and managing three-week look-ahead schedules
• Strong leadership and communication skills
• Trenchless experience (HDD, jack and bore, micro tunnelling) is desirable
