Job summary

Thompson Concrete Construction is seeking a Superintendent to lead daily field operations on commercial concrete projects in Ohio. You will coordinate with project managers, foremen, subcontractors, and suppliers to keep work on schedule, safe, and aligned with quality standards.

The role demands strong communication, hands-on leadership, and the ability to forecast manpower and resources. The successful candidate will coach crews and represent the company with professionalism on site.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage daily field operations for assigned commercial concrete projects.
  • Plan, coordinate, and communicate daily work activities with foremen, crews, project managers, safety, quality control, vendors, subcontractors, and general contractors.
  • Review project drawings, specifications, schedules, scopes of work, RFIs, submittals, and field changes to ensure the work is properly planned and executed.
  • Set clear expectations for safety, quality, production, housekeeping, communication, and crew performance.
  • Support resource planning by forecasting labor needs, coordinating crews, and making sure the right people and resources are in place at the right time.
  • Coordinate equipment, materials, concrete deliveries, embeds, layout, inspections, and jobsite logistics to maintain schedule and production goals.
  • Lead jobsite meetings, communicate schedule needs, identify conflicts early, and help develop practical solutions before issues impact the project.
  • Hold field teams accountable for Thompson Concrete’s safety standards, quality expectations, production goals, and professional conduct.
  • Track daily progress, labor production, jobsite conditions, delays, safety concerns, and other important project information.
  • Develop foremen, lead men, and future field leaders by coaching, teaching, and setting a strong example on the jobsite.
  • Build strong working relationships with clients, general contractors, inspectors, suppliers, subcontractors, and internal team members.
  • Represent Thompson Concrete with professionalism, ownership, and pride in the way the job site is run.

Job description

The Superintendent is responsible for leading daily field operations and ensuring that Thompson Concrete projects are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and to the highest standard of quality. This role is the key leader on the jobsite and serves as the connection point between the field team, project manager, general contractor, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal operations team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage daily field operations for assigned commercial concrete projects.

Qualifications
  • Experience leading field operations on commercial concrete projects, preferably including foundations, slabs, structural concrete, excavation, or site concrete.
  • Strong understanding of construction drawings, layouts, specifications, schedules, sequencing, and jobsite coordination.
  • Proven ability to lead crews, plan work, solve problems, and maintain production in a fast-moving jobsite environment.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with project managers, foremen, crews, general contractors, inspectors, vendors, and subcontractors.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, accountability, and doing the work the right way.
  • Ability to forecast manpower, equipment, material, and schedule needs before they become problems.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities on an active construction site.
  • Experience with daily reports, production tracking, look-ahead schedules, and job-site documentation is preferred.
