Primary Purpose

Under direct supervision of a Principal Investigator or designee, observe and support basic research activities, assist scientists in laboratories, set up and maintain laboratory instruments, equipment, and materials, make observations, and record results.

Essential Job Functions
  • Assist in the conduct of research, including the collection of information and samples.
  • Assist in the performance of tests using routine and special techniques and methods.
  • Keep logs of work‑related activities.
  • Use computers and computer‑interfaced equipment to perform work duties.
  • Provide basic assistance to researchers in recording data.
  • Clean, maintain, and prepare supplies and work areas.
  • Set up, adjust, calibrate, and clean laboratory equipment.
  • Assist in report writing and/or perform library research.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required.
Physical Requirements
  • Near vision: must be able to see details at close range (within a few feet).
  • Speech clarity: must speak clearly so others can understand you.
  • Speech recognition: must identify and understand another person's speech.
  • May be exposed to short, intermittent, and/or prolonged periods of sitting and/or standing while performing job duties.
  • May be required to accomplish job duties using various types of equipment or supplies, including pens, pencils, and computer keyboards.
