Job summary

South Dakota State Government, Department of Public Safety, is offering a Summer Internship for an Intern - Highway Patrol in Rapid City, SD. Shadow Troopers, assist with traffic enforcement-related tasks, and gain exposure to specialized units.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled as a part-time or full-time student at the time of application.
• By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their program.
• Preference may be given to juniors/seniors, SD residents, and students of SD institutions.

Responsibilities

• Shadow State Troopers while they enforce traffic laws.
• Assist with crash reconstruction mapping and safety checks.
• Attend safety talks with troopers and shadow specialty units like recons, SWAT Mobile Force, Drone Operators, K9 handlers and Task Force Troopers.
• Assist the district office with administrative duties such as supply inventory and records keeping.
