Job summary

General Motors is seeking a summer Supplier Quality Engineer Intern to serve as technical liaison between GM purchasing, product engineering, manufacturing, and suppliers in support of APQP/PPAP processes and quality improvements. You will participate in root cause analysis, assist with PFMEA, control plans, and supplier visits, and contribute to continuous improvement across cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

  • Pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial & Systems Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials/Metallurgical Engineering, Quality Engineering/Management, or a related technical discipline
  • Must be graduating between December 2027 and June 2029
  • Able to work full-time, 40 hours per week during the summer months
  • Must not require GM immigration-related sponsorship now or in the future, including H-1B, OPT, STEM OPT, CPT, TN, or J-1 support
  • Preferred: Exposure to Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or Quality Engineering tools
  • Preferred: Familiarity with engineering drawings, GD&T, or materials science concepts
  • Preferred: Prior internship, co-op, or project experience in manufacturing or automotive industries

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the technical liaison between GM purchasing, product engineering, manufacturing, and suppliers
  • Work with suppliers to resolve manufacturing and quality issues
  • Implement and monitor advanced quality planning systems
  • Provide technical support throughout the lifecycle of a commodity, including warranty
  • Assure supplier understanding and compliance with APQP and PPAP requirements per GM standards
  • Review and approve supplier quality plans, including Control Plans and PFMEA, for new components and assemblies
  • Review supplier manufacturing processes and quality systems
  • Facilitate root cause analysis and corrective actions for supplier quality issues
  • Perform on-site supplier visits for root cause analysis and corrective-action verification
  • Implement and monitor supplier part qualification and certification processes, including PPAP and Run at Rate
  • Improve supplier quality performance through onsite workshops, technical assistance, and quality-system support
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and contribute to continuous improvement and engineering projects
