Job summary

General Motors in Warren, MI invites an SQE Intern to bridge GM purchasing, product engineering, and manufacturing with the supplier base. You’ll help resolve quality issues and support advanced quality planning throughout the lifecycle of a commodity.

You’ll gain hands-on exposure to APQP/PPAP, PFMEA reviews, root cause analysis, on-site supplier visits, and Run at Rate processes, all within a hybrid work setup.

Qualifications

• Pursuit of a Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, industrial & systems, manufacturing, materials/metallurgical, quality engineering, or related field.
• Must be graduating between December 2027 and June 2029
• Able to work fulltime, 40 hours per week during the summer

Responsibilities

• Ensure supplier understanding and compliance with APQP and PPAP requirements.
• Review and approve supplier quality plans (Control Plans, PFMEA) for new components and assemblies for new vehicles.
• Review supplier manufacturing processes and quality systems.
• Facilitate root cause analysis and corrective actions of supplier quality issues.
• Perform on-site supplier visits for root cause analysis and verification of corrective actions.
• Implement and monitor supplier part qualification and certification processes (PPAP, Run at Rate).
• Improve quality performance of suppliers by conducting onsite workshops at supplier locations, providing technical assistance in developing a robust quality system, or other technical support as required

The Role:

As a Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) Intern, you will be the technical liaison between GM purchasing, product engineering, manufacturing, and our supply base. You will also work with the suppliers to resolve supplier manufacturing and quality issues, implement and monitor advanced quality planning systems, and provide technical support throughout the lifecycle of a particular commodity, including warranty. • Review and approve supplier quality plans (Control Plans, PFMEA) for new components and assemblies for new vehicles
• Review supplier manufacturing processes and quality systems
• Facilitate root cause analysis and corrective actions of supplier quality issues
• Perform on-site supplier visits for root cause analysis and verification of corrective actions of supplier quality issues
• Implement and monitor supplier part qualification and certification processes (PPAP, Run at Rate)
• Improve quality performance of suppliers by conducting onsite workshops at supplier locations, providing technical assistance in developing a robust quality system, or other technical support as required

Required Qualifications:

Pursuit of a Bachelor's degree in one of the following areas: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial & Systems Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials/Metallurgical Engineering, Quality Engineering/Management, or related technical discipline

Must be graduating between December 2027 and June 2029

Able to work fulltime, 40 hours per week during the summer months

What will give you a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

• Exposure to Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or Quality Engineering tools
• Familiarity with engineering drawings, GD&T, or materials science concepts
• Prior internship, co-op, or project experience in manufacturing or automotive industries

Work Arrangement:

Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Warren, MI three times per week, at minimum .

GM will provide a one-time lump sum taxable stipend payment to eligible students selected for the 2027 Student Program.
