Job summary

The GFP Intern - Cultural Resources Site Monitor position with the South Dakota Department of Game, Fish and Parks invites motivated students to participate in monitoring cultural resource sites across Lake Oahe and surrounding areas. You will conduct on-site visits, document conditions, and photograph sites to record impacts, working with Wildlife Division staff and external partners.

Applicants should be enrolled as a part-time or full-time student for the upcoming or immediately preceding

Qualifications

• GPS and ArcGIS experience is highly beneficial.
• Background in anthropology/archaeology coursework preferred.
• Successful candidate should be able to navigate remote areas on foot/ATV/boat.

Responsibilities

• Monitor designated cultural resource sites on Wildlife Division lands and document conditions with written notes and photographs.
• Work with Division of Wildlife staff, private landowners, US Army Corps of Engineers, and SD Archaeological Research Center archaeologists.
• Assist with related projects such as posting signs, mowing trails, fencing, noxious weed control, and locating survey markers as time allows.
