Job summary

The Department of Game, Fish, and Parks offers a Summer Conservation Officer Intern position in Rapid City and other SD cities. The role supports officers with safety programs, inspections, and enforcement activities during a May–August session.

Responsibilities

• Assist Conservation Officers with day-to-day activities (hunt safe programs, boat safety inspections, parks enforcement, license checks).
• Respond to calls for service from the public and participate in Step Outside events.
• Keep a daily activity log and submit a weekly summary to your supervisor.
• Photograph activities and deliver a presentation at the end of summer to Regional staff.

Position Description:
Conservation Officer Intern will assist Conservation Officers with various day to day activities. Activities include hunt safe programs, boat safety inspections, parks enforcement, license compliance checks, calls for service from the public, and Step Outside events. Conservation Officer Intern will be responsible for keeping a daily log of activities completed and submit a weekly summary of these activities to the immediate supervisor. Intern will also be required to photograph their activities and give a presentation at the end of the summer to Regional staff

Qualifications:
Applicant must be enrolled as a part‑time/full‑time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply. By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program.

All students are encouraged to apply, but preference may be given to applicants with a standing of junior/senior, South Dakota residents, and students of South Dakota institutions.
