Job summary

American Electric Power Summer Internship Program invites bright college students to join a 10-12 week paid engineering internship in Corpus Christi, TX, with a $1,500/month housing stipend for moves over 45 miles. Interns work on real projects, learn from industry leaders, and receive mentorship to deepen understanding of the electric utility industry.

Interns pursue Electrical, Civil, Mechanical, or Chemical engineering tracks with freshman-year completion, ABET accreditation, 18+ years old,

Qualifications

• Pursuing a ABET-accredited engineering degree in Electrical, Civil, Mechanical or Chemical engineering.
• Must have completed at least your freshman year.
• Graduation date December 2027 or later.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Not eligible for sponsorship, OPT, or CPT.
• Willingness to relocate for the summer to internship locations if necessary.
• Strong GPA desired (3.0+), good communication and interest in the electric utility sector and sustainability.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with project teams and engineers on planning, designing and executing enterprise projects.
• Engage in design reviews, training sessions and constructability assessments to maintain safety and standards.
• Participate in field visits to operational facilities to understand power system operations and assist inspections.
• Develop and analyze databases, reports, cost estimates and dashboards for data-driven decisions.
• Support documentation for decision-making processes and safety initiatives.
• Adhere to safety guidelines in office and field environments.
• Expand engineering skills by taking on new challenges.
