Job summary

American Electric Power offers a 10-12 week paid Engineering Internship in the Tulsa, Oklahoma area. Interns collaborate with project teams, gain hands-on design experience and contribute to real utility projects under the guidance of industry mentors.

Applicants must be pursuing an ABET-accredited bachelor’s in Electrical, Civil, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering, have completed freshman year, and expect to graduate in December 2027 or later. 18+ and relocation may be required.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Civil, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering in an ABET-accredited program.
  • Must have completed at least your freshman year.
  • Graduation date of December 2027 or later.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • This position is not eligible for sponsorship, OPT, or CPT.
  • Willingness to relocate for the summer to Tulsa, OK.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborating with project teams and experienced engineers on planning, designing and executing enterprise resource projects to ensure seamless integration from design to construction.
  • Engaging in design reviews, training sessions, knowledge-building projects and constructability assessments to maintain safety and operational standards.
  • Participate in field visits to operational facilities to understand power system operations and assist in inspections and tests.
  • Assisting in the development and analyses of databases, reports, cost estimates and dashboards to enhance data-driven decision-making.
  • Supporting documentation for decision-making processes and initiatives aimed at improving operational performance and safety.
