Job Description

This seasonal, non‑benefited position runs from July 6th to August 14th. The program serves children from Pre‑K to 9th grade, with weekly hours varying by program needs. Assist in providing an enriching, exciting, and fun summer experience to participants through activities and support across all Chelmsford Community Education Summer Programs, including Summerfest, SummerQuest, Field Play, Preschool Enrichment, and more.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with the preparation and maintenance of records for students in need of individualized instruction.
  • Assist with planning activities to enhance student experience.
  • Assist in meeting students' individualized needs by adapting behavior management expectations and plans.
  • Assist with supervision of students when needed.
  • Perform other related duties as directed.
  • Implement plans aligned with the weekly theme.
  • Create a safe and enjoyable environment for the children.
  • Attend mandatory staff meetings prior to summer and complete all required training.
  • Work as a group leader.
  • Help offer students an amazing summer filled with games, laughter, and positive interaction.
  • Work on the floor, lift over 50 lbs, work outdoors in all weather conditions, stay on feet, and meet physical requirements; some programs may require daily travel rain or shine.
  • Mentor junior counselors.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma; older students with some college coursework preferred.
  • Experience working with children or teens desirable.
  • Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.
  • Suitable alternatives to the above qualifications approved by the Director of Community Education.
  • Completed and accepted CORI and fingerprinting.
  • 18 years of age; citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
Terms of Employment
  • Position ranges from part‑time to full‑time.
  • Hours vary by program.
  • Salary: $18.75 per hour.
  • Work year: Summer position.
Evaluation

Performance will be evaluated annually in writing by the Supervisor and discussed with the incumbent. A copy will be maintained by the Director of Community Education.
