Job summary

ATI Specialty Materials in Monroe, NC invites rising juniors and seniors to join the 2027 Product Engineering Internship. You'll work on turning alloy designs into manufacturable, high-performance products within real production environments.

You’ll apply materials science or mechanical engineering knowledge to optimize microstructure, improve specifications, and support process capability. Projects may involve nickel shapes, processing parameters, and metallurgy for demanding applications.

Qualifications

• Rising junior or senior pursuing a BS in Materials Science & Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Chemical Engineering.
• GPA 3.0 or higher (preferred).
• Interest in product development, metallurgy, or high‑performance alloy applications.
• Familiarity with Excel, data analysis tools, or metallurgical lab techniques.

Responsibilities

• Optimizing Boeing shapes processing parameters to support process performance and consistency.
• Standardizing reheat points for nickel shapes and rectangles.
• Supporting process improvement activities related to materials processing and metallurgy.
• Applying materials science and metallurgical concepts to hands-on manufacturing projects.

2027 Product Engineering Internship – ATI Specialty Materials

Locations: Monroe, NC

Program Duration: 10 Weeks | Summer 2027

Target Students: Rising Juniors & Seniors – Materials Science, Metallurgical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering

Transform Alloys Into Performance – Intern in Product Engineering at ATI

As a Product Engineering Intern, you'll be part of the team that transforms alloy designs into manufacturable, high-performance products. You’ll apply your materials science or mechanical engineering background to optimize microstructure, improve product specifications, and enhance process capability in real production environments.

What You’ll Work On

Depending on your project assignment, you may:

• Optimizing Boeing shapes processing parameters to support process performance and consistency.
• Standardizing reheat points for nickel (Ni) shapes and rectangles.
• Supporting process improvement activities related to materials processing and metallurgy.
• Applying materials science and metallurgical concepts to hands‑on manufacturing projects.

Preferred Qualifications
