Job summary

AMD offers an internship/co-op program in San Jose, CA, placing students at the center of the AI ecosystem. You will work full time (40 hours/week) in either hybrid or onsite arrangements throughout the summer term.

We are seeking US-based master’s students in Computer or Electrical Engineering. Exposure to FPGA design (VHDL/Verilog), CPU architecture, and languages such as C++ and Python is encouraged. This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Qualifications

  • US-based university enrollment in a Master’s program in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Interest in FPGA hardware, CPU architecture and related design methodologies.
  • Exposure to programming languages (C++ / Python) and scripting is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on FPGA-based and x86 solutions.
  • Gain hands-on knowledge of FPGA hardware, x86 servers, tools and design methodologies.
  • Develop and present technical demos, proofs-of-concept, and training materials.

  • Locations: San Jose, CA
  • Onsite/Hybrid: This role requires the student to work full time (40 hours a week), in either a hybrid or onsite work structure throughout the duration of the co‑op/intern term
Duration
  • Summer Internship:
    • Semester Students: May 24, 2027 – August 13, 2027
    • Quarter Students: June 21, 2027 – September 10, 2027
What You Will Be Doing
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to solve real‑world problems using FPGA‑based and x86 solutions.
  • Gain in‑depth knowledge of FPGA hardware, x86 servers, software tools, and design methodologies.
  • Develop and present technical demos, proofs‑of‑concept, and training materials.
  • Work with cool technology like machine learning, signal processing, high speed serial I/O
Who We Are Looking For
  • Currently enrolled in a US based University in a Master’s degree program majoring in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related discipline
  • If you have knowledge / experience with any of the following technical skills (or related areas) and are enthusiastic about this role, we strongly encourage you to apply –
    • Highly motivated engineers with experience in digital design.
    • Engineers interested in technical sales who help customers get their designs done faster.
    • Exposure to Digital Design (VHDL / Verilog)
    • Exposure to CPU computer architecture
    • Familiarity with basic programming, data structures and algorithms
    • Exposure to OOP languages (C++ / System Verilog / etc.)
    • Exposure to Scripting languages (Perl / Python)
