Bolton & Menk, Inc. invites you to join our Emerging Markets & Services team as a SUE Field Technician II, supporting transportation, municipal, water, energy, and land development projects across the United States.

You will primarily work in the field, partnering with engineers, surveyors, utility owners, contractors, and fellow SUE professionals to locate, document, and verify underground utilities, ensuring accurate data for planning, design, and construction decisions.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree in Surveying Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Technology, Geomatics, or a related field preferred.
• 2+ years of experience in utility locating, Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE), surveying, construction inspection, utility construction, or related field services.
• Experience operating geophysical utility locating equipment preferred.
• Basic understanding of ASCE 38 standards and utility quality levels.
• Knowledge of underground utility systems including water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, electric, gas, and telecommunications infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Designate and document existing underground utilities utilizing geophysical locating equipment and industry standards, including ASCE 38-22 Quality Levels.
• Assist with utility surveying, mapping, and utility data collection activities to support accurate project deliverables.
• Operate vacuum excavation equipment to safely expose and verify underground utility locations.
• Operate and maintain company vehicles, vacuum trucks, and specialized field equipment including utility locating devices, compressors, air lances, concrete saws, and hand tools.
• Assist in implementing approved traffic control plans and follow all applicable safety requirements during field operations.
• Maintain accurate project documentation, field notes, and records while protecting the confidentiality of company and client information.
• Travel frequently to project sites and other project-related locations as necessary to support project delivery.
