Substitute Utility Steward
Mandarin Oriental New York is looking for a Substitute Utility Steward to join our Stewarding team.
About The Job
The Substitute Utility Steward is responsible for cleaning pot/dish washing, removal of garbage/boxes, silver polishing, sweeping, mopping, and other cleaning or organizational tasks including inside coolers and kitchen area. The role also helps plate up and assist in the kitchen. Flexibility and a helpful attitude are paramount.
Duties
- Follow the goals and missions for the stewarding department
- Help inventory China, glasses, silver and hollowware from outlets and main storage
- Provide equipment (China, glasses, silver) to outlets and banquets for operations
- Follow cleaning schedule for kitchen, pastry, garden manager, banquets, cafeteria and coolers
- Follow weekly schedule for employees
- Help kitchens whenever necessary
- Do and follow requisition for banquets from the B.E.Os.
- Follow cleaning schedule for dumpster
- Follow maintenance schedule for dishwasher machines
- Assist and provide equipment for any banquet function
- Assist and help banquet kitchen colleagues to plate up
- Follow hygiene and control program for kitchen and surrounding areas
- Develop and follow training program for stewards
- Follow standard and procedures for department
- Establish good communication with supervisor and colleagues

Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Two up-to-date sanitation classes
- Minimum of 1 year experience in food and beverage, or professional cleaning business
- Possess a pleasant and outgoing personality
- Good knowledge of stewarding and banquet operations
- Possess superior organization skills
- Ability to pay attention to detail, handle multiple tasks, and show a high level of patience
- Ability to work under high stress conditions
- Stand/Walk 8–12 hours a day with physical demands detailed below

Compensation and Benefits
- Pay $30.46 to $40.62 hourly, commensurate with experience
