About The Job

Based at the Mandarin Oriental New York within the Culinary/F&B Department, the Substitute Utility Steward is responsible for the cleaning of pot/dish washing, removal of garbage/boxes, silver polishing, sweeping, mopping, and any other cleaning or organizational activity that may arise, including inside of coolers and kitchen areas. The role also includes assisting with plate‑up and kitchen support. Flexibility and a helpful attitude are paramount.

Responsibilities
  • Follow the goals and missions for the stewarding department.
  • Help with inventory of China, glasses, silver and hollowware from outlets and the main storage.
  • Provide enough equipment (China, glasses, silver) to outlets and banquets for operations.
  • Follow the cleaning schedule for the kitchen, pastry, garden manager, banquets, cafeteria and coolers.
  • Follow the weekly schedule for the employees.
  • Help kitchens whenever necessary.
  • Prepare requisitions for banquets from the B.E.O.s.
  • Follow the cleaning schedule for the dumpster.
  • Follow the maintenance schedule for the dishwasher machines.
  • Assist and provide equipment for any banquet function.
  • Assist banquet kitchen colleagues to plate‑up.
  • Follow the hygiene and control program for the kitchen and surrounding areas.
  • Develop and follow the training program for stewards.
  • Follow the standard and procedures for the department.
  • Establish good communication with the supervisor and colleagues.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Two up‑to‑date sanitation classes.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in food and beverage or professional cleaning business.
  • Possess a pleasant and outgoing personality.
  • Good knowledge of stewarding and banquet operations.
  • Possess superior organizational skills.
  • Ability to pay attention to detail, handle multiple tasks and show a high level of patience.
  • Ability to work under high stress conditions.
  • Stand/Walk 8–12 hours a day.

Occasionally: 1/3 of the workday, frequently: 2/3 of the workday

Pay and Benefits
  • Pay $30.46 to $40.62 hourly – commensurate with experience.
  • A competitive benefits package.
