Job summary

Inter-Lakes Community Action is seeking a Substitute Nutrition Assistant in Sioux Falls, SD to support meals for the elderly and children through our congregate meals, Meals on Wheels, and the Head Start Program. You will assist the lead cook, prepare and distribute nutritious meals, and help ensure safety and compliance with state and federal guidelines.

This non-exempt, hourly role offers growth in a friendly team environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; culinary arts cert a plus.
• Experience in kitchen or food service preferred but not required.
• Knowledge of food safety regulations and cleanliness standards.
• Ability to operate standard kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
• Strong organization and teamwork with clear communication.

Responsibilities

• Review daily menus and ensure meals are nutritious and on schedule.
• Record types and amounts of special food items for compliance.
• Estimate and order supplies, inventory, and equipment.
• Step in for the cook as needed to ensure continuity of service.
• Maintain food safety, monitor temperatures and portions.
• Operate and maintain kitchen equipment and assist in receiving inventory.

Inter-Lakes Community Action is seeking a dedicated and efficient Substitute Nutrition Assistant to join our team in Sioux Falls, SD. This vital role supports the delivery of nutritious meals to the elderly and children in our community through our congregate meal services, home-delivered meals (Meals on Wheels), and the Head Start Program. About the Position:

As a Substitute Nutrition Assistant, you will play a key role in our kitchen operations, working closely with the lead cook to prepare and distribute meals that meet the dietary needs and preferences of our participants. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the health and well-being of our community's most vulnerable populations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Review and prepare daily menus, ensuring meals are nutritious and prepared according to schedule.
• Record the amount and types of special food items served to maintain accurate records for compliance with State and Federal agencies.
• Estimate and order food supplies, inventory, and equipment as needed, maintaining efficient kitchen operations.
• Step in for the cook as needed, showcasing your culinary skills and ensuring continuity of service.
• Maintain strict adherence to food safety and sanitation standards, including monitoring food temperatures and portion sizes.
• Operate and maintain kitchen equipment and utensils, ensuring a clean and safe working environment.
• Assist in the receiving and storage of inventory, ensuring proper dating and storage of food items.

Qualifications:

• A high school diploma or equivalent; additional certification in culinary arts or food service management is a plus.
• Previous experience in a kitchen or food service setting preferred but not required.
• Familiarity with food safety regulations and a commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness.
• Ability to operate standard kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Good communication skills and the ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

Salary and Benefits:
