Position Details

• Job Title: Substitute Early Childhood Educator

• Reports to: Program Manager, Compass Kids
• Location: Center for Women and Children
• Completion Date: November 2023

Position Summary

The Early Childhood Educator will support children in various age groups within a therapeutic classroom environment, providing nurturing and supportive care in line with trauma-informed, Christ-centered approaches.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

1. Co-teach in a therapeutic classroom environment, implementing developmentally appropriate, trauma-informed, and Christ-centered approaches.
2. Utilize evidence-based curriculum and sensory tools in educational activities.
3. Communicate effectively with children, parents, coworkers, and volunteers.
4. Ensure the program meets the needs of children in a Christ-centered, strengths-focused, trauma-informed manner.
5. Teach basic early childhood education standards using sensory tools.
6. Provide daily updates to parents and staff about children's activities.
7. Adhere to all policies and procedures of Wheeler Mission, the Center for Women and Children, and Indiana law.
8. Participate in staff meetings and program reviews.

Qualifications

• At least 1 year of experience working with young children.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must obtain or have a Child Development Associate (CDA) Certification during employment.
• Experience in school or family recovery settings (preferred).
• Knowledge of trauma-impacted children, poverty, homelessness (preferred).

Skills and Knowledge

• Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook.
• Ability to learn HRIS (Paycom) and other relevant software.

Physical and Other Requirements

• Ability to lift 10-30 pounds safely.
• Ability to stand, sit, walk, bend, kneel, reach, and play with children for extended periods.
• Availability to work 40 hours/week, Monday to Friday, between 7am and 6pm.
• Willingness to travel for field trips.
• Background check, physical, TB test, and adherence to drug/alcohol policies are required.
