Summary:

The Unconventional is seeking a highly skilled Language Instructor to join our team to support the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (DLIFLC). In this role, you will be responsible for providing classroom language instruction for the Defense Language Institute - Washington (DLI-W).

Specific duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide professional foreign language instruction to students in a classroom and/or virtual environment.
  • Prepare tailored lessons to individual student’s needs.
  • Base instruction on proficiency-oriented principles of second language acquisition.
  • Employ culturally-based, learner-centered instruction with authentic materials.
  • Utilize appropriate methods for adult learners, including Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) and Task-based Language Teaching (TBLT).
  • Incorporate diverse instructional technologies and engage students’ higher-order thinking skills.
  • Integrate intercultural competence and cultural knowledge into language instruction.
  • Use authentic materials and immersive teaching methods.
  • Develop curriculum/materials that promote higher-order thinking skills and language acquisition.
  • Include a syllabus for all courses regardless of length.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent and at least two (2) years of relevant experience in teaching adults using proficiency-oriented methods.
  • Successful experience of at least four (4) years in teaching the target language to adult learners in an intensive environment may substitute for education.
  • Must be an educated native speaker of the language/dialect taught, with strong English language skills.
  • Ability to adapt to varying learning styles and teaching strategies.
  • Must have Oral Proficiency Interview scores of Level 3 or above in the Target Language and Level 2 or above in English.

Clearance: Must be able to pass a background check.
