Summary:

The Unconventional is seeking a highly skilled Language Instructor to join our team to support the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (DLIFLC). In this role, you will be responsible for providing classroom language instruction for the Defense Language Institute - Washington (DLI-W).

Specific duties may include, but are not limited to:

• Provide professional foreign language instruction to students in a classroom and/or virtual environment.
• Prepare tailored lessons for individual student needs.
• Base instruction on proficiency-oriented principles of second language acquisition.
• Utilize culturally-based, learner-centered instructional methods.
• Focus on communicative competence in real-life situations.
• Utilize level- and topic-appropriate lessons and materials.
• Teach writing skills to promote language acquisition.
• Incorporate methods that focus on real-world communication.
• Devote attention to listening and reading comprehension skills.
• Bridge the gap between global and job-specific language performance skills.
• Engage students’ higher-order thinking skills and develop independent learning skills.
• Incorporate diverse instructional technologies into training.
• Integrate intercultural competence into language instruction.
• Utilize authentic materials and immersive teaching methods.
• Ensure curriculum includes sufficient analysis and comprehension of target language texts.
• Include a syllabus for all courses.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent with at least two (2) years of relevant experience in intensive training.
• Four (4) years of relevant experience may substitute for education.
• Must be an educated native speaker of the language/dialect taught with strong English skills.
• Ability to adapt to varying student learning styles.
• Oral Proficiency Interview scores of Level 3 or above in the target language and Level 2 or above in English.

Clearance: Must be able to pass a background check.
