Summary:

The Unconventional is seeking a highly skilled Language Instructor to join our team to support the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (DLIFLC). DLIFLC is responsible for ensuring that our Nation's effort to understand the languages and cultures of our friends and foes alike are met. In this role, you will be responsible for providing classroom language instruction for the Defense Language Institute - Washington (DLI-W).

Specific duties may include, but are not limited to:

• Provide professional foreign language instruction to students in a classroom and/or virtual environment.
• Prepare for each class, tailoring the lesson to individual student’s needs.
• Base all instruction on proficiency-oriented principles of second language acquisition.
• Employ authentic materials and real-world tasks in instruction.
• Utilize appropriate lessons, materials, and activities to advance students’ proficiency.
• Teach writing skills to promote language acquisition.
• Engage students’ higher order thinking skills and develop independent learning skills.
• Incorporate diverse instructional technologies into training.
• Integrate intercultural competence and cultural knowledge into language instruction.
• Use authentic materials and language in immersive ways.
• Include a syllabus in all courses regardless of length.

Required Qualifications:

• Must possess a Bachelor's degree or equivalent and have at least two (2) years of relevant experience in intensive training.
• At least four (4) years in teaching the target language may substitute for education.
• Must be an educated native speaker of the current standard form of the language/dialect taught.
• Must have strong English language skills.
• Must have Oral Proficiency Interview scores of Level 3 or above in the Target Language.
• Must provide documentation demonstrating proficiency scores.

Clearance: Must be able to pass a background check.
