Substitute Bus Driver – 2026-2027 School Year

Position: Substitute Bus Driver

Location: Newton Community School District

Salary Schedule for 2026-2027

• Hourly Route Substitute Base Pay: $32.72
  • Routes are approximately 3 hours per day.
• Hourly Activity Trip/Field Trip Pay: $20.55
  • Additional hours available year round for activity trips and extracurricular activities.
• School Day Routes (Monday - Friday)
• CDL training provided

Qualifications

• Valid and/or eligible to hold a CDL driver license to operate a school bus as required by State Law, with passenger P and airbrake endorsements.
• Driver must have a good driving record.
• Driver must comply with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and obtain/sustain US DOT Medical Examiner Certificate.
• Hired applicants must pass the DCI background check and prework physical requirements.

Performance Responsibilities

• Be responsible for passengers safety, welfare, discipline, and protection.
• Report any problems or unusual occurrences to the Transportation Supervisor.
• Adhere to all federal, state, local, and school district regulations, including random drug/alcohol testing.
